Yazeed Qashwa is an Assistant Lecturer within the Dietetics, Nutrition & Biological Sciences, Physiotherapy, Podiatry & Radiography Division at ¹û¶³´«Ã½, Edinburgh. Yazeed is also a Member of the Clinical Motion Analysis Society, UK and an Associate member of the Physiotherapy Pain Association, UK.

Yazeed is a physiotherapist by background, with a specialist interest in neuromusculoskeletal physiotherapy. In addition to working in a number of clinical roles, Yazeed has been undertaking a range of academic and research activities. Prior to his current role in ¹û¶³´«Ã½ as an Assistant Lecturer in Physiotherapy, Yazeed worked as Graduate Teaching Assistant for Glasgow Caledonian University as well as Research Assistant for Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) for Higher Education Scotland.
Yazeed was awarded his MSc Physiotherapy with Distinction from Glasgow Caledonian University. During his studies, he undertook Advancing Physiotherapy Practice, which developed his knowledge, skills, and attributes in line with the UK’s National Health Services’ four pillars of advanced practice: Clinical Practice, Facilitating Learning, Leadership, and Evidence and Research. Yazeed also enriched his knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and concepts of professional development in national and international contexts and in relation to others, including peers, service users, carers, colleagues and service providers.
In addition to undertaking Neuromusculoskeletal Focused Advanced Skills and Innovative Practice, a core part of Yazeed’s MSc was focused on teaching in Higher Education (HE), which enhanced his knowledge of contemporary issues in HE, with a specific emphasis on teaching strategies, student-staff relationships, co-creation, and transitioning from on-campus to online and hybrid models of teaching. Yazeed was an invited seminar speaker in the World Physiotherapy Congress in 2021, and was also invited by Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) UK to present in its Evolving Student Engagement Conference in 2021.
Research Overview:
Yazeed’s research scope of interest is in Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy, with a focus on implementing biopsychosocial models for the management of neuromusculoskeletal conditions and improving quality of life. Yazeed also has research interests in Higher Education pedagogy and widening participation.

- Neuromusculoskeletal pain management
- Physical activity and falls management in frail older adults
- Biomechanics, including gait analysis (kinetics and kinematics)
- Psychologically informed practice (particularly, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)
- Developing inclusive curricula and co-creation in higher education

- Quantitative methods, including the evaluation of effectiveness of interventions and psychometric properties of measurement instruments
- Qualitative methods, including Nominal Group Techniques and Cognitive Interviewing
- Mixed methods, including surveys and Delphi studies
- Systematic literature reviews
Yazeed is also part of the Centre for Health, Activity and Rehabilitation Research (CHEARR), ¹û¶³´«Ã½, UK
Yazeed’s primary area of teaching is Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy, with an emphasis on clinical reasoning and patient-centred management. Additionally, Yazeed is involved in the teaching and assessment of a range of other physiotherapy and interdisciplinary modules at BSc (Hons) and MSc levels, including practice-based learning, research and appraisal of evidence, theoretical and clinical aspects of multidisciplinary team working, as well as supervising dissertations.
