The Move to Corstorphine and Renaming as Queen Margaret College

In 1970, our institution (then the College of Domestic Science) moved to a campus at Clermiston in West Edinburgh, and in 1972, the institution was renamed Queen Margaret College in light of the broadening of its course portfolio.

The 25-acre site was purchased from Wimpey for 拢37,500 and included the old grade 2 mansion of Clermiston House, however this would be found to be in a poor state and was therefore demolished during the construction process.

It subsequently absorbed a number of other Edinburgh-based educational institutions including:

  • The Edinburgh College of Speech and Drama;
  • The Edinburgh School of Speech Therapy;
  • The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh School of Physiotherapy;
  • The Astley Ainslie Hospital Occupational Therapy Training Centre;
  • The Edinburgh Foot Clinic and School of Chiropody;
  • The Edinburgh School of Radiography; and
  • The Edinburgh University Settlement School of Art Therapy.
